Can I just say that the pics of the band are not the easiest to look at , involves a lot of going backwards and forwards ... is there any other format we can
view them in ... sorry to be a pain and to be honest I wouldn't have a bloody clue how to set a website up but I don't look at the pics a lot for that
reason.

Bugger. Just lost all I typed in trying to use these stupid smilies.... Right, start again.
There are five options available with the current software I'm using for the web site. I think I'm using the best of the five but I don't think it's brilliant either. If anyone would like me to I'll put some up in a different format for discussion. The other way to do ikt would be for me to buy some different web software. Before anyone offers I will NOT use pirated software. My PCs only have legal software on them - I know of businesses that have been randomly checked by the FAST (Federation Against Software Theft) and caught out and apart from it being illegal anyway I'm not taking that chance with my company... I could do it all by hand-coding the HTML, which is how I (used to) do my web site, but it takes a LOT longer. Sorry... "We don't need to know the answers to hope and pray for peace" |

Hmm I see that on the website, Meet the band, Mark hasn't looked back since the age of 14 Is this a spinal problem - or is he frightened of something?
The smilies do my head in too. They won't do as they're told - won't go where I want them. H

There are loads of "not actually on the web site" options we could explore.
When I get a chance I'll try and do some things within the site. Lynda's away for a week soon - that might be the time! Currently spending loads of time trying to sort out my mother who has recently been diagnosed with Dementia (Lewy Body Disease)... "We don't need to know the answers to hope and pray for peace" |

AstralEnigma wrote:Hi Trevor - I see that Jalbum software has been suggested as a possible alternative. I've been beaten to it, as that's what I was going to suggest! I don't know if you'll remember, but we had a bt of a discussion at the beginning of the year, after I'd sent you some photos of the Robin gig, and I'd mentioned the possibility of you linking to my site. If you - or anyone else who's interested - would care to have a quick look, you can see Jalbum in action at http://www.digitalsensor.co.uk . JAlbum is pretty easy to use, and doesn't need any server-side software or add-ins; basically, you tell the program which photos to use, hit a few options and it generates the pages and links for you. The resulting pages are pretty easy to incorporate into an exisitng site - little more than a case of linking to the new pages. Another option, and one that I've used in the past, is a php-based program such as Gallery or (better but more complicated) Coppermine. The big disadvantage with these two programs is that your web host has to support php, and there's a little bit of setting up to do. The advantages are that the resulting galleries are configurable, so you can change their appearance, and they have nice features such as the ability to upload photos in batches. They can even be set up so that users can uload their own photos. If you'd like any more info, give me a shout off-list. Cheers, Eddie. |

Gm7b5 wrote:Glad you like them! I have loads still to upload; I took a lot more (several hundred, in fact!), and I ended up with so many similar-looking ones that I'm having difficulty deciding which ones are the best. There's no point in uploading all of them, so I've divided them into groups (individual band members, group shots etc.) so that I can pick the best ones and upload a roughly equal number of each of the band (otherwise I'd end up uploading 200 shots of Livvy ).
I've got the same problem with the pics I took of The Reasoning - too many photos, too little time One day, I'll get around to sorting them out...

Thanks Eddie for your thoughts on the alternative sstructure for web site pics.
What about everytone else? There is a second set of Cambridge pics available, accessible from the left hand menu links only at present. The pictures pop up differently, but may help users of Macs. If people prefer this way, then I'll change to this in future, starting with the Bilston pics (when I've got them all - so far some from Eddie - Chris and Mac still to come...) Please post your thoughts here... "We don't need to know the answers to hope and pray for peace" |

After discussion with the band we've decided to remove the "Meet The Fans" page from the web site. This does not, of course, mean that Breathing
Space's fans are not greatly valued - far from it - the contrary is very much the case as I'm sure you will all know.
However as the number of fans grows there is a danger that it looks like there are only a dozen or so fans. The hope is the new fans, as well as existing ones, will identify and meet each other through this forum instead. So if anyone new turns up here, please continue to notice and welcome them as I know some of you already do. And if you are a new fan please find the "who are you" thread and let us know a bit about you! "We don't need to know the answers to hope and pray for peace" |
